About MBSImP
The Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP) is a standardized approach to interpreting modified barium swallow studies. It evaluates 17 physiologic components across the oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal phases of swallowing.
Oral Phase (C1-C6)
Lip closure, tongue control, mastication, transport, residue, initiation
Pharyngeal Phase (C7-C16)
Soft palate, laryngeal elevation, airway protection, contraction, PES opening
Esophageal (C17)
Esophageal clearance when visible during the study
